Description

“Harmony” is a yin and yang sign with day and night written into it: a ginger owl dozes in the light half, while night flowers and feathers open in the dark one.

What the picture shows

The circle is divided by a wavy line. The upper, warm part holds an owl with half-closed eyes; its head and chest are worked in ochre, terracotta and golden brown, and blue and lilac flowers with green leaves bloom beside it. The lower part is dark, almost black, scattered with silver sparks: emerald and blue-green feathers resembling peacock plumes glow there, along with white blossoms. Each half carries a small eye in the opposite colour, as the symbol requires. Outside the circle the canvas stays pale, with a fine graphic sketch of leaves and branches — that outline is not stitched, it holds the composition together and sets off the dense beaded circle in the centre.
