Description

“Night in the desert” sets a full moon above a thicket of cacti under a starry sky. The subject is decorative and graphic: cool moonlight, a black sky and lush green plants in the foreground.

What the picture shows

A large moon fills the centre, its seas and craters carefully worked in greys, beiges and ochres, surrounded by a black sky dotted with small stars. On the left rises a ribbed columnar cactus with turquoise and emerald facets, with squat succulents and purple rosettes at its base. On the right spreads a prickly pear with round pads and pink blossoms, and dark lilac and blue rosettes below. In the middle, directly against the moon, stands a striped agave with sharp leaves. The plants and the moon are stitched in beads, while the night sky mostly stays as print on the artist canvas, so the cactus silhouettes cut out especially clearly.
