Description

“During the blooming of Ivan Chai” pairs a snow-covered mountain at dawn with a pink field of fireweed in the foreground. The landscape is calm, with plenty of open air and warm morning light on the summit.

What the picture shows

The mountain mass with its snowy slopes holds the background: the sun lights the peak in warm gold and ochre, while the shadows in the hollows settle into lilac and pale blue. The sky is pink, peach and soft blue, with long stretched clouds. A dark band of conifer forest runs along the foot of the mountain, with separate firs visible on the right. The whole lower third belongs to the fireweed: tall spikes from crimson and pink to lilac, with green and bluish grass and small pale flowers between them. Beadwork covers the flowers and the snow on the summit, while the sky and the distant forest stay as print on the artist canvas, so the foreground clearly steps forward.
