Description

“Hydrangeas” gathers generous round heads of blue and lilac hydrangeas into one dense bouquet that fills the full width of the canvas. The mood is a summer garden right after rain, when colours deepen and the leaves turn darker.

What the picture shows

The flower heads differ in shade: almost white and soft pink on the left, blue with yellow centres in the middle, and a saturated blue-violet on the right. Every small floret has a lighter centre, so the clusters come out rounded and slightly shimmering. Between them lie dark green and emerald leaves with clear veins, stitched in separate rows of beads. The watercolour green-grey background with its soft washes stays as print on the artist canvas: beadwork covers only the flowers and foliage, which is exactly why they step forward. The palette is restrained, blue and green, with pink accents.
