Description

“Indigo” shows twelve bird feathers drifting down against a winter sky, with a wide band of ethnic ornament along the bottom. The blue-and-turquoise palette with gold gives a calm boho mood, full of air and free of clutter.

What the picture shows

The upper half belongs to the feathers: some narrow and sharp, others soft and ruffled. Their colours run from inky indigo and cobalt to turquoise and sea green, while the quills and parts of the vanes are worked in golden beads, several of them carrying a small diamond pattern inside. Below runs the ornamental band — blue and gold diamonds, zigzags and stepped shapes that recall a woven blanket. The clouded sky with its blue washes and the misty white at the top stay as print on the artist canvas: on this base the beads do not cover everything, so the feathers and the ornament stand out clearly against the matte ground.
