Description

“Wake up me....” shows a female figure whose dress turns into an enormous waterfall of flowers. The canvas is strongly elongated, and the movement runs upward, towards the lifted arms.

What the picture shows

At the top of the narrow canvas, against a deep blue sky with white streaks, stands a girl with bare shoulders, her head thrown back and one arm raised. From the waist down a wide skirt unfolds, woven from thousands of flowers: near the waist they are hot — red, orange, gold, with big sunflower-yellow centres — and further down they cool into green, blue, lilac and almost black at the very bottom. The flowers are stitched one by one, so the hem looks full and downy; dimensional hemispheres, bicones and leaves add the glitter. A few pale feathers fall at the sides of the skirt like light brushstrokes. The background — the blue sky and the dark lower field — stays as print on the canvas, and the beadwork is concentrated on the figure and its floral train.
