Description

“Sparkle” is a woman's profile that you see only because thousands of golden sparks are scattered around it. The figure itself is not stitched — bare canvas plays that part.

What the picture shows

On a dark grey canvas the beadwork covers not the silhouette but the space around it. Small flowers, stars and dots in orange, copper, gold and white gather densely along the outline of the head and the full curly hair, then scatter more and more thinly until they vanish into the ground. Where the skin of the face, the neck and the shoulder should be, the canvas is left bare — and that is exactly why the profile reads instantly: you see the forehead, nose, lips, chin and the line of the shoulder. On the right a few curls break away from the mass and fly off to the side, and a separate handful of flowers gathers near the shoulder below. There are thirteen colours, all in a warm range; the microbeads supply the finest sparks that create the shimmer.
