Description

“Zillions of drops” shows a cloud pouring long threads of multicoloured rain. The subject is decorative and almost graphic, built on a simple contrast between top and bottom.

What the picture shows

In the upper part of the dark grey canvas sits a large billowing cloud built in rows of beads: orange and terracotta on top, then pink, lilac and raspberry, with deep blue and emerald bands underneath. From its lower edge dozens of long vertical bead strands fall, each in its own colour — turquoise, navy, green, pink, orange, white. The strands vary in length and end at different heights, so the rain looks uneven and alive rather than ruled out with a straight edge. The gaps between them stay empty, and the dark canvas between the drops works as part of the drawing. There are twelve bead colours; the background stays as print and is not stitched at all — the whole piece rests on the cloud and the long streams beneath it.
