Description

“Contemplating…” is an ornamental composition in an oriental spirit: a lush floral silhouette assembled from dozens of small patterns. It is a piece for people who like to look at detail for a long time.

What the picture shows

On an even dark grey canvas a symmetrical shape opens out, something between a flower bud and a lotus. The lower part is a large half-round rosette built from rows of scales and petals in emerald, turquoise and blue with white and pink flecks. Above it crowds a tangle of multicoloured paisley curls — raspberry, lilac, orange, blue — each with its own inner pattern of dots, spirals and teardrops. Sharp white petals with openwork outlines frame the figure at the top and sides, rising to a drawn-out spire. Small dots of every colour are scattered around like sparks. The fine drawing inside the curls is worked in microbeads in ten colours, and bicones and pearls give the dimensional accents. The background stays as print, so the ornament reads as a bright mosaic on a plain grey field.
