Description

“Wisteria” is a round design of heavy lilac clusters hanging from top to bottom. The mood is spring-like and a little drowsy, the way a garden feels on a warm evening.

What the picture shows

The composition is set inside a circle: five or six large wisteria racemes hang parallel to one another, tapering as they fall. Each cluster is made of tiny blossoms and shifts in colour along its length — from saturated violet and ink blue at the top to lilac, pink and near white at the tips; one cluster on the left is pale pink, another at the centre a cool blue. The flowers are stitched individually, so the clusters come out textured and full. Dark green branches with small leaves run across the top and right, drawn as lines of beads. The blurred lilac-blue background with violet grasses at the bottom stays as print on the canvas, and that is exactly what lets the beaded clusters step forward.
