Description

“Moon cat” is a round design in which a cat and the night sky fold together into a yin-yang. The subject is decorative and calm, built entirely on flowing curls.

What the picture shows

The design is circular and the composition follows that shape: a light half and a dark half flow into each other along a wavy line. A cat sits at the centre, body drawn upward, its long tail curving down to close the circle. The silhouette is assembled from gold and copper curls, spirals and dots, with the printed ground showing through the gaps — the result is lacework rather than a solid figure. On the dark grey half to the left the same patterns appear, stitched in silver and steel beads; on the pale blue marbled half to the right, openwork golden clouds drift past. A rim of small beads runs around the edge, accented here and there with large beads and pearls. The marbled background stays as print, and the beadwork follows only the ornament.
