Description

“Raccoon wanted” is a portrait of a smiling raccoon in a flower crown. The subject is childlike and kind, with just the streak of mischief raccoons are loved for.

What the picture shows

The face fills almost the whole canvas: round ears, broad cheeks in fluffy grey, silver and white beads, the dark mask around the eyes and a small black button nose. The eyes are made from resin elements, so they are genuinely glossy and domed — they are what brings the portrait to life. Bright turquoise and pink strokes sit under the eyes like festival face paint. On the head is a wreath of red, cream and pink flowers with blue and emerald leaves, and the same floral garland lies across the chest. The background is a pale zigzag in pastel stripes — mint, lilac, peach, yellow — and stays as print on the canvas, so the beads work only on the raccoon and the flowers and the figure separates cleanly from the ground.
