Description

“Moon” is a full moon in close-up on a plain grey ground. One object, no extra detail, and that is exactly what makes the piece read so cleanly.

What the picture shows

The disc fills almost the entire square canvas. The surface is beaded in warm tones — gold, amber, bronze, cream and white — while the dark seas are laid in graphite and grey-blue beads that form the familiar pattern of markings. Towards the lower edge the light gathers, and bright craters radiate outward from there. The outline of the disc is not smooth but slightly grainy, because the beads step around the curve, and that keeps the edge alive. The background is an even grey surface with no pattern; it stays as print on the canvas, so all the shine stays inside the circle. Only eight bead colours are used, and the depth comes entirely from how they alternate.
