Description

“Into the sky” shows a cluster of hot-air balloons rising through a turquoise sky. The mood is simple and the colour thoroughly festive.

What the picture shows

The canvas is vertical. The background is a watercolour sky shifting from deep turquoise at the top to pale blue and near-white below, with a faint crescent moon; it stays as print on the canvas. There are around twenty balloons in different sizes: some large across the foreground, others tiny near the horizon. Each carries its own dotted bead pattern — blue with white spots, orange with stripes, green, violet, cream with amber rows. The baskets are small, hung on thin strands of beads. Only the balloons are beaded, so they lift above the matte printed sky and read as three-dimensional.
