Description

“Little suns” is a wreath of sunflowers around the hand-drawn line Today a new sun rises. The mood is bright and early-morning, without any pathos.

What the picture shows

The canvas is vertical and the background is white and almost empty, so each flower reads on its own. Seven sunflowers sit around the edge: the petals are worked in orange, yellow, gold and warm red beads, the centres in dark brown with green and pink rims. The leaves are lush green with turquoise and lime transitions, the stems thin. In the middle are the words, built from letters of different sizes and colours — turquoise, red, ochre — with tiny curls inside them. Small bees, hearts, raindrops and stars are scattered between the flowers. The white ground stays as print on the canvas, so the beaded flowers look like appliqué on a clean sheet of paper.
