Description

“Bridge” is a panoramic view of a country corner: a stone footbridge over a stream, a half-timbered cottage among flowers and autumn trees on a sunlit slope.

What the picture shows

The canvas is stretched wide, so the scene reads from left to right. On the left, in shade, stands a white-and-brown house with a tiled roof and dormer windows, and in front of it are generous bushes of lilac, pink and white blossom. In the centre a rough stone bridge arches over the water, its span dark underneath as the stream runs through, and a blue boat is moored at the bank. On the right, on a sunlit lawn, a row of trees carries red, orange and yellow crowns. Beadwork covers the flowers, the foliage, the stonework of the bridge, the boat and the water — by bead count this is the largest kit in the batch, and the stitching covers almost the entire surface. The palette divides in half: cool lilac-blue and green on the left, warm autumn gold on the right, with the bridge in the middle stitching the two halves together. There are a great many small details, so it is easier to work the canvas area by area.
