Description

“Dancing light” is a dancer in a red dress in the middle of a warm golden space, with white doves circling around her.

What the picture shows

She is seen from behind and slightly in profile: dark hair streams out, a red rose is pinned into it, and the off-shoulder dress runs into a long train that spreads across the whole lower edge of the canvas. The background is ochre and orange with soft flame-like washes and a scattering of golden dandelion-shaped circles worked in small beads. White doves fly to the right and left of the figure, and one more has settled on the train itself. Beadwork covers the dress, the train, the hair, the birds and the golden circles, while the face and hands stay as print, so the skin looks alive next to the glittering fabric. The large Preciosa #6 beads give separate accents inside the golden rosettes. The composition is diagonal: the figure moves from the upper left corner down to the right and the train picks up that movement. Red is the only saturated colour, everything else rests on shades of gold and ochre.
