Description

“The Sea With You” is a bouquet of seashells arranged in a large spiral shell standing on the sand at the water's edge. Instead of flowers there are whelks, scallops, cones, a sea urchin and tiny pearls; pebbles, coral twigs and small shells lie scattered around.

What the picture shows

The whole composition is built on shell texture, and that is both the challenge and the charm of this one. Every shell has its own beading pattern: striped cones, the pink nacre of the scallops, the rough surface of the whelk. Turquoise water and green-blue sky stay as painted background, which is why the beaded shells look as if they were really lying on the canvas.
