Description

“Sun symbol” is a lion's head in profile whose mane is made not of fur but of sunflowers, daisies and leaves.

What the picture shows

The lion faces right: the muzzle is painted in lilac, blue and ochre strokes, with a green eye and a pink nose. From there the profile flows into the mane — orange sunflowers with dark centres, pink and pale blue petals, long green leaves and blue curls that spread outwards like rays. The background is an even, warm mustard yellow, and it is what gives the sun feeling named in the title. Beadwork covers the whole mane, the flowers and the muzzle; the stitches run in rows along the curls, so every petal has its own direction and catches the light at a different angle. The yellow background stays as print, so the dense decorative pattern keeps its edges instead of blurring into one mass. Look closely and you can count at least six large blooms in the mane, and no two of them repeat each other in colour or size.
