Description

“Gentle glow” shows branches heavy with pink and red blossom in front of a round stained-glass window with a golden sun behind it. The mood is warm, in an art nouveau spirit.

What the picture shows

A tall narrow vase worked in gold and bronze beads stands in the centre, with branches spreading from it to both sides. The clusters of blossom are dense and built from small beads — raspberry, red, pink and lilac with flecks of purple — and long green leaves push out between them. Behind rises a round window with a yellow stained-glass rosette that sends out rays, and below it a blue winter landscape with a bridge can be seen. A small pale blue jug stands on the sill to the right. The walls, the window and the landscape stay as print, while beadwork holds the flowers, the vase and the gilded frame of the rosette. The branches form an arch above the vase and echo the shape of the round window behind, which makes the composition closed and balanced. Each small floret is made of just a few beads, so the clusters come out rounded and stand slightly above the canvas.
