Description

“The awakening of love” shows two silhouettes standing side by side in a column of light while the whole space around them twists into a mosaic vortex. The picture is abstract and extremely saturated with colour.

What the picture shows

The lower half of the canvas is made of waves of green, red, orange and gold, laid in long curved rows that read now as grasses, now as tongues of flame. The upper half is cool: blue, turquoise and violet rectangular tiles radiate in circles from a spiral in the top corner that looks like a moon. A vertical shaft of light glows in the middle, and within it two human figures stand dark, holding hands. The canvas is beaded from edge to edge, and it is the direction of the rows that creates the movement: everything turns around this couple. The couple is small in relation to the canvas, and it is that scale which makes the vortex around them feel so large. The warm lower half and the cool upper half meet exactly at the level of the shaft of light. The tiles in the upper part vary in size: small near the spiral, larger towards the edges.
