Description

“Sweet summertime” puts the words Sweet Summertime and watermelons against a dark background that looks like a chalkboard. A summer picture with the feel of a chalked café menu.

What the picture shows

The word SWEET runs across the middle in large solid letters, each with its own flavour — red watermelon flesh with black seeds, white rind, green striped skin. Below it Summertime is written in a script hand and stitched in white and cream beads. Under the lettering lies a big round watermelon with dark green striped skin, and triangular slices with pink flesh are scattered in the corners. The dark grey, almost black background with its plaster texture stays as print, so the beaded letters and melons read like a chalk drawing that has come to life. The slices sit in the corners in a way that balances the heavy block of lettering in the middle. There are several shades of deep red here, so the flesh of the fruit looks juicy rather than flat. The seeds in the flesh are stitched in black beads, a few on every slice, and small black dots scatter across the background.
