Description

“Messenger of happiness” is a unicorn's head in profile against a burst of gold. The picture is bright and slightly theatrical: the animal seems to have just stepped out of the light.

What the picture shows

The unicorn is white with lilac and mauve shadows; its mane falls in waves and curls, with small green sprigs and red berries woven into it. The horn is pearly pink, the eye deep blue. Behind the head a ring of small yellow blossoms opens like mimosa, and beyond it run rays of cool blue, sky blue and pink that look like strokes of thick paint. The whole surface is densely beaded — the mane, the golden crown of flowers and the rays alike — so the picture works as one continuous shimmering field with no open background. The strokes around the head fan out in all directions like rays and set the movement of the whole composition. The high bead count and full coverage take time, but the finished surface comes out even and glossy. The yellow blossoms behind the head are set as individual beads, and they are what creates the flash of light.
