Description

“Coffee map” is twelve panels, each with its own way of serving coffee and its own caption. It looks like a café menu gathered into a single picture.

What the picture shows

The canvas is divided into four rows of three squares, and each one has its own ground: brown, cream, blue, burgundy. Inside are cups on saucers, tall glass goblets, clay mugs, a cezve, a cup crowned with whipped cream and cinnamon, and a glass of cold coffee over ice. The name of the drink is lettered above or beside each picture: Mocha, Café au Lait, Cappuccino, Irish coffee, Frappe, Turkish coffee, Iced coffee and others. The whole picture is framed by a broad band of coffee beans on a dark ground. The palette is warm: brown, ochre and cream with blue and burgundy insets. Beads cover the vessels, the beans, the lettering and the border, while the painted shadows inside each panel stay as print on the canvas.
