Description

“Evening city” is a panorama of skyscrapers at sunset, mirrored in the water below. The format is very wide, so the city reads as one continuous band.

What the picture shows

The skyline runs from edge to edge: towers of varying heights, among them sharp spires and stepped crowns. The buildings are worked in red, crimson, blue, white and deep navy, and pale dots of windows are scattered across the façades, alight in the dusk. The sky is pink-orange low down and deep blue above, with dark clouds laid in horizontal strokes. The bottom third of the canvas is water, and the whole city repeats there upside down — the same colours, but broken into short, interrupted strokes. Beads cover the buildings, the lights and the reflections, while most of the sky stays as painting on the canvas, so the city silhouette steps forward.
