Description

“Flowers on the Shore” is a summer still life set outdoors: a blue jug of daisies and yellow blooms standing on the sand, shells and pebbles scattered around it, the sea and white clouds behind. The composition is vertical, with a tall branch of white blossom reaching almost to the top edge.

What the picture shows

In the foreground sits a deep blue jug surrounded by daisies, red poppies and small yellow flowers. Below are shells, pebbles and a starfish. Background, sea and sand stay as painting; the beadwork covers the flowers, the pottery and the shells — and that is what gives the piece its relief.
