Description

“Music of herbs” is a panorama of a summer meadow opening onto hills and a distant village. It captures the moment when the grasses stand taller than you are and everything sways in the wind.

What the picture shows

The foreground is densely planted: white daisies, lilac and purple spikes that recall lupins and heather, white dog-rose blossom with small red berries, round thistle heads on tall stems, and thick green grass stitched in long strokes that follow each blade. Behind the meadow the ground lightens into yellow-green hills divided into strips of fields, and tiny white houses with roofs show in the distance. The sky is pale blue with white clouds. Beads cover the flowers, grasses and berries of the foreground, while the hills, the village and the sky stay as painting on the canvas — which is what preserves the depth and pushes the meadow forward.
