Description

“Day and night meeting” splits the picture in two between night and dawn: on the left the sun rises over mountains, while on the right the sky is still purple with a crescent moon and stars. A tree with a crown of coloured discs grows in the middle.

What the picture shows

The trunk climbs from the lower right corner in a long curved line stitched in dark brown beads, and the crown spreads left as a wide cloud. It is built from dozens of round blossoms in purple, blue, turquoise, crimson and yellow, each with its own centre. To the left of the tree the sky brightens, and long rays fan out from an orange sun above blue and lilac mountain peaks. Below lie green hills, a ribbon of river and a strip of meadow with white and pink flowers. Stitched snowflakes and stars are scattered across the dark half of the sky. Beadwork covers the tree, the crown, the rays, the flowers and the stars, while the mountains and the sky mostly stay as print on the canvas.
