Description

“Wedding certificate” is a tree whose trunks meet in a large heart, with a pale field of ruled lines left inside the heart for names and a date. The crown is completely covered in small flowers of every colour.

What the picture shows

Two trunks rise from below, braid together in silver-grey ribbons and form a symmetrical heart in the centre of the horizontal canvas. The crown above and around it is made of hundreds of tiny blooms: pink, yellow, pale blue, crimson, white and lilac, with gold and pearl centres. Green leaves, butterflies and the stitched word Love, repeated in four places, are scattered among them. A few more flowers and leaves lie below the tree as if they had fallen. The background is soft pink with barely visible brushwork; it stays as print on the canvas, as do the ruled lines, so the couple's details are written in with an ordinary pen once the stitching is done.
