Description

“Park Guell” is a view over Barcelona from Gaudí's famous mosaic terrace. The whole picture is built as a mosaic of small coloured patches, so beadwork does exactly what the subject asks for.

What the picture shows

In the foreground winds the celebrated bench laid with ceramic shards: blue, lilac, yellow, green and orange fragments form large spirals and waves, with a brown snail spiral darkening in the centre. On the right rises the little pavilion tower crowned with a cross. Beyond the terrace spreads the city: tiled roofs, palms, white and terracotta houses reaching to the horizon, where the sea shows as a narrow blue band. The sky is taken up by an enormous sun of gold, orange and white patches, sending rays across the entire upper part of the canvas. The beadwork covers the terrace mosaic, the roofs, the greenery and the sun, while part of the distant townscape stays as print on the canvas.
