Description

“Metric for a boy” is a baby record in blue tones with a field for the child's name, date of birth, weight and height. The pale field is shaped as a scalloped plaque, with toys and nursery odds and ends arranged around it.

What the picture shows

The background is light blue with small white polka dots, and a wide blue band with the words Baby boy runs along the bottom. A string of stitched figures hangs across the top: a baby in a cap, a moon, a blue teddy bear, a romper with a yellow button, a bunny and an elephant, with yellow stars and a red heart dangling between them. A blue pram rolls to the right of the plaque, a gift box and a bag holding a small red car stand to the left, and a yellow duckling, a star, a spinning top and a party hat line up below. The beadwork covers all the figures, the outline of the plaque and the hearts, while the dotted background and the ruled lines stay as print on the canvas.
