Description

“Vivid” is a large flame-coloured flower with sharp petals opening in the middle of a blue and white spring bouquet. Its colours run from yellow and orange to crimson, so it really does read as a flare against a pale background.

What the picture shows

The main bloom takes the centre and the upper right of the canvas: long pointed petals spread out like rays, and the heart of the flower is worked in deep red and burgundy beads. To its left rise blue and purple irises with wavy petals, near-ink buds darken beside them, and small white flowers with yellow centres are scattered among the stems. In the lower right, white and pale blue blossoms open on thin petals. Stems and narrow leaves are stitched in green and emerald beads that anchor the whole composition from below. The background is loose brushwork in sky blue, pink and cream; it stays as print on the canvas, and that is what makes the beaded flowers look so bright.
