Description

“Azure coast” is a group of seashells, a starfish and a pair of flip-flops at the edge of the sand. A summer still life set inside a white beaded border.

What the picture shows

A large pink conch with a wide aperture and a wavy lip lies at the centre: its outer side is stitched in ochre and amber beads, while the inside shifts from pale pink to almost white. Smaller shells are gathered around it — a coiled silver-white one, a brown-red bivalve, two small violet ones; beside them lie a pink starfish and a branch of coral. Turquoise flip-flops with pink flowers stand on the sand at the top, with a small starfish between them. Turquoise water rolls in as waves stitched in silver beads, which makes it look transparent. A white pearl border frames the whole scene against a blue field that stays as print on the canvas. The sand at the top is cream, marked with fine ripples from the water, and lower down it turns a warm ochre. The branch of coral is stitched in pink beads with fine offshoots.
