Main Bead Embroidery Kit Successful fishing
Description
“Successful fishing” is an angler's collage with a large freshwater fish at its centre, set in a frame of branches. The piece keeps to a restrained green-and-brown palette, with details anyone who spends time on the water will recognise.
What the picture shows
The fish is shown in profile on a pale cream field: a dark mottled back, silvery flanks with vertical barring, greenish fins and a broad tail. The frame is made of two crossed branches wound with long willow leaves; the word Crappie runs along the top, and at the bottom right are the word Driftwood and a piece of wood washed up by the water. A red-and-white float with a hook hangs from a line on the right, and a rod with a reel lies below. Small sketches are scattered around the edges: gulls, fish silhouettes, an old handwritten note. Beadwork covers the fish, the branches, the leaves, the float and the reel, while the background sketches stay as print on the canvas. An old card with a faded handwritten note hangs from the branch on the left, and a reel with line wound onto it lies below.
