Description

“Multicolored wind” is a narrow vertical panel with a swarm of small butterflies sweeping across it on the diagonal. Together with white blossom they form a ribbon caught by the wind.

What the picture shows

There are several dozen butterflies, nearly every one a different colour: orange, blue, turquoise, raspberry, green, violet, yellow. The wings are stitched in short stitches with barely visible dark veins, which makes them look velvety; a few butterflies hold their wings closed, the rest have them open. Between them lie white and cream blossom clusters on thin dark twigs — these are beaded too and give the stream its lightness. The band runs diagonally from bottom left to top right and gradually thins out towards the edges. The background — an even mint green with a warm beige glow at the top — stays as print on the canvas, so the movement of the swarm reads clearly. The largest butterflies gather in the middle of the band and grow smaller towards the edges. A few white clusters are worked as single scattered beads.
