Description

“Face of the moon” is a fairy-tale tower that has grown right on a crescent moon among the night clouds. A square piece in a pastel lilac palette, with butterflies.

What the picture shows

The crescent curves in a half circle and is stitched in shifting white, pink, lilac and mint beads; at its lower tip it coils into a spiral like a snail's shell. A narrow tiered tower stands on the crescent, with a tall spire, round windows and an arched door — its walls are painted in pink, lilac and gold bands, and teardrop pendants hang along the edge of the roof. Four butterflies fly around it: orange, violet, blue and a small yellow one. The background — a deep blue sky with curling white clouds — stays as print on the canvas, and the beaded part glows against it as if lit from within. A fringe of round beads in different colours hangs beneath the tower, and a blue butterfly rests on the lower edge of the crescent.
