Description

“Flower palette” is an artist's palette on which irises and red poppies have bloomed instead of paint. Simple in shape and very bright in colour, set against a dark background.

What the picture shows

The palette lies on the diagonal, with the familiar thumb hole in the middle; it is stitched in silver-blue and pearl beads, so it looks like a surface still wet with paint. In the lower part three large irises open out — white-pink petals with violet centres, yellow beards and long green leaves. Above them red-orange strokes spread across the palette, with poppies emerging from them. Two more deep red flowers on green stems reach beyond the palette at the top, and small red accents are scattered along the bottom edge. The dark navy, almost black background with a vertical blue band stays as print and makes the flowers especially visible. The paint strokes around the irises are stitched in short scattered stitches, so they really do look brushed on.
