Description

“Gait” is a rearing horse whose mane and tail scatter into waves of colour. A decorative piece in which only the line of movement is left of a realistic horse.

What the picture shows

The horse's body is honey-gold, dappled with pale patches and tiny flowers scattered right across the coat. Mane, tail and the feathering above the hooves twist into long spirals — pink, lilac, blue, white and terracotta, finished with beaded curls at the tips. Flowering sprigs reach in from the right and the left, their small blossoms recalling spring cherry, and a thin gold border runs around the edge. The dark smoky-violet background with its warm amber glow stays as print on the canvas, so the beaded horse lights up against it. The finest and slowest stitching falls on the curls of the mane and the flowering branches. The hooves and the tips of the strands end in thin white tongues that suggest smoke and sea foam at once.
