Description

“Wonder-city” is a fairy-tale town that has grown inside a glass bottle lying on the sea floor. Spired towers show through the clear walls, and a large ginger fish swims past.

What the picture shows

The bottle lies at an angle, its dark cork pointing upwards. Inside, pale sandy towers rise to different heights like coiled shells, with small coral branches between them. The glass, the outlines of the towers and the rising air bubbles are stitched in pearl and silver beads, so the bottle genuinely glows. Around it are grassy thickets, yellow and orange corals on the seabed and a shoal of small yellow fish to the right. The background — a turquoise-green body of water with yellow sunlight and lilac waves near the surface — stays as print on the canvas, and the beadwork reads especially clearly against it. The ginger fish on the left is stitched in warm orange beads, with a large round eye and translucent fins.
