Main Bead Embroidery Kit Maritime history
Description
“Maritime history” shows a large wave breaking against a rock at sunset. The subject is realistic and full of movement, with the feel of damp air and the noise of surf.
What the picture shows
The wave rises at the centre: the body of water is beaded in emerald, deep green and turquoise, while the crest flies apart into white and pearly foam. On the left a rock darkens in ochre and brown ledges, with a small pine and its spreading crown holding on to it. A second wave rolls in on the right, lit with gold. The sky is pink and peach, with warm bands running to the horizon, and two birds soar high above. The sky and the far plane stay largely as print on the canvas, while the water, the foam and the rock are beaded, which is what makes the surf read as the most three-dimensional part. The foam is beaded in white and pearl in loose irregular clusters, while the body of the water is stitched in even rows following the direction of the wave, so the movement reads at once. The pine and the rock are worked in dark, almost muted tones and balance the bright centre.
