Description

“Welcome moment” shows a couple kissing in the rain on a night street, under a lamp. The subject is romantic, painted with a palette knife, with a strong contrast between the grey city and the bursts of colour.

What the picture shows

Two figures hold the centre: a man in dark clothes, a woman in a dress, her hair caught by warm golden light. Between them they hold a bouquet that glows blue, red and yellow. A street lamp burns on the left inside a golden halo, and on the right rises a tree trunk laid in turquoise, violet, ochre and green strokes. Rain falls in slanting strokes, and the wet cobbles below turn everything into long vertical reflections, stitched in rows of pale and silver beads. The grey-graphite ground of the street stays partly as print, and the coloured accents read especially brightly against it. The figures are beaded in fine rows that follow their shape, while the rain and the reflections are stitched in short vertical strokes, so the whole lower part of the canvas shimmers. The brightest colours are gathered in the tree trunk and in the bouquet.
