Main Bead Embroidery Kit A town wakes up
Description
“A town wakes up” is a seaside town in silvery greys under the canopy of a bright, many-coloured tree. The original is painted with a palette knife, and the beadwork picks up exactly that texture.
What the picture shows
The houses climb the slope in tiers: white, pearl-grey and graphite walls, dark roofs, narrow windows and the occasional warm ochre accent. Below lies the water, where everything is reflected in long vertical rows of pale beads, and boats with yellow hulls sit by the shore. Above spreads a canopy of separate dense strokes — orange, yellow, turquoise, pink, violet, green — each stitched as its own patch of beads. It is the contrast between the restrained town and the festive foliage that holds the whole composition together; part of the grey ground stays as print. The canopy is beaded as separate short dabs, each in its own colour, while the reflections in the water are stitched in long vertical rows, so the texture at the top and at the bottom is completely different. Towards the lower edge the highlights lighten almost to white.
