Main Bead Embroidery Kit Light holiday of the Cover of the Virgin
Description
“Light holiday of the Cover of the Virgin” shows the Mother of God spreading a white veil over a village, with ordinary autumn life going on below. The scene is painted in a naive, almost folk-print manner, warm and homely.
What the picture shows
At the top stands a figure in a red maphorion with a golden halo, holding out a spread of white cloth that covers the houses. Beneath the veil a white church rises with golden domes and the blue-green cupolas of a smaller bell tower. Below, wooden cottages crowd together with red roofs stitched in rows of beads; in front of them a woman in a long skirt stands with children, beside a fence, a white horse and a basket of guelder berries. A flock of doves crosses the sky. An autumn tree blazes on the left, and a golden distance stretches away on the right. Part of the sky and the far plane stays as print on the canvas. The roofs, walls and fence are beaded in even rows, while the veil is worked in pale, almost white beads, so it reads as one bright field above the whole village. The figures below are small, but each has its own colour of clothing.
