Description

“Fascinating walk” shows a black-and-white long-haired dog sitting on a pink retro bicycle among flowers, tongue out with pure contentment. The mood is warm and a little funny, like a summer morning in an old town.

What the picture shows

The dog holds the centre: white chest and paws, black ears and back, a pink tongue. In front of it sits a basket full of pink, lilac, white and cream blooms with yellow centres, and another wave of flowers spills lower down over the frame. The bicycle is drawn in soft pink with silver spokes and a shining mudguard. The background is a watercolour street with ochre walls, green shrubs and blurred light; it stays as print on the canvas, while the dog, the flowers and the bicycle are beaded, which is what pushes them clearly forward. The whole scene is built on a diagonal, from the black-and-white shape of the dog at the top down to the flowers and the pink frame below. The warm, muted tones of the background balance the clean pink and lilac accents of the bouquet.
