Description

“Herons” shows two herons standing in the water facing each other among reeds and water lilies. It is a small piece with a calm mood and a cool blue-green palette.

What the picture shows

On the left stands a blue-grey heron with a dark crest and a long yellow bill; on the right a pale, almost white bird with the same drawn-out beak and a greenish sheen on its feathers. The two turn their heads towards each other, so an almost symmetrical arch forms between them. Long thin legs stand in shallow water, with green reed stems and dense foliage rising around them. Pink water lilies with yellow centres are scattered across the water below, and light catches on the current. The background is a blurred blue-green sky with soft transitions. Beads cover the herons, reeds, leaves and flowers, while water and sky stay mostly as print on the artist canvas. The bills almost touch, which makes the pair look like a mirror reflection. The feathers are worked in small stitches, so the wings come out slightly fluffy.
