Description

“Foxy holiday” shows two dressed-up foxes among roses and silver scrollwork, like a scene from a vintage card. The piece is elegant and a little theatrical, with the feel of a family portrait.

What the picture shows

One fox sits upright with a large pale green bow at its neck; the other stands behind in a light blue hat with a wide brim. The red-orange fur contrasts with white chests and dark paws. Large roses open around them: pink and cream below, deep and pale blue at the sides. The composition is held by a silvery openwork frame of curling scrolls, a fan and a mirror in which a third fox face is reflected, with a hand mirror and a comb lying at the bottom. The background is light wood with soft grain. Beads cover the foxes, the flowers, the silver lacework and the small objects, while the calm background stays as print on the artist canvas. The foxes hold calm poses and look straight at the viewer, as in an old photograph. The silver frame and the cool blue of the roses balance the warm red of the fur.
