Description

“Neon look” is a large cat portrait built from clean neon colours on a black ground. The face is shown almost in close-up, at three quarters, so the piece catches the eye at once.

What the picture shows

The head fills nearly the whole canvas. The fur is broken into coloured strands: violet and blue above the eyes, green and yellow on the forehead, crimson and red along the nose, turquoise and white on the chest. The eyes are large and round, with orange-yellow irises, black pupils and a white highlight. Nose and lips are drawn in red and pink, and long whiskers stretch as pale lines across the dark ground. The background itself is flat and deep black with no detail, so every colour stroke sounds at full strength. This is the most densely stitched design in the batch: beads cover the entire figure of the cat, while the black background stays as print on the artist canvas. The colour layout is not symmetrical, so the face looks alive rather than like a decorative scheme.
