Description

“Winter night” shows a brick house with warm light in its windows in the middle of a snowy garden. It is about the evening when snow is falling outside and the lamps are already on inside.

What the picture shows

A two-storey red brick house stands at the centre: the tall windows glow orange-yellow, a lantern burns above the door, the roof and dormers carry a thick cap of snow, and a chimney rises from the ridge. Two trees grow on either side, their bare branches completely coated with snow so that they form white lace against the sky. In front of the house are a low fence and a gate, with a trodden path leading to the door. The sky is deep blue with lilac and steel tones, and large snowflakes fall through it. Beads cover the house, windows, trees, snow and fence, while the night sky stays as print, which is why the window light reads so warm. Snow is given both on the branches and in the air, so the evening really does feel frosty.
