Description

“Fairy-tale about a cat” shows a ginger cat with a whole bouquet blooming across its chest, set against an antique tapestry. The piece looks like a page from an illustrated book of tales.

What the picture shows

The cat sits face-on with its paws together, looking straight at the viewer with green eyes; the fur is ginger with darker stripes and the long tail curls around the front paws. In place of its chest is a dense bouquet of small flowers — tulips, bellflowers, carnations and white sprays in pink, red, blue and green. The background is deep blue, covered with a plant ornament of urns and curling stems, like an old wall panel. A wide decorative border of yellow scrolls, blue diamonds and small red flowers surrounds the canvas. Beads cover the cat, the bouquet and the whole border, while the tapestry background stays as print, so the figure separates clearly from the pattern. The border repeats the colours of the bouquet, so the picture feels gathered and complete.
