Description

“Chamomile etude-2” continues the daisy series: the same narrow format, but this time water opens up behind the flowers. The mood is cooler and deeper than in the first etude.

What the picture shows

The lower third gathers large white daisies with fluffy yellow centres, yellow blooms beside them and finely cut leaves, with small blue stars and flying bees at the very bottom. The middle and upper part belong to a pond: dark water with highlights, a few pale stones, water plants and the reflection of the bank. Tall pink flower spikes and golden dry grasses rise along the water and glow against the dark ground. The palette joins cool blue-green water with warm pink and ochre accents. Beads cover the flowers, spikes, leaves and stones, while the water and the blurred background stay as print on the artist canvas — that contrast is what makes the blooms stand out. Small bees and scattered blue stars add movement and depth to the scene.
